Double-click the installer. It places the app plus two virtual audio devices — AI Translator Input and Output. No BlackHole, no Loopback.

Inside the Apple pipeline
Apple has no single speech-to-speech API, so the app composes three on-device stages. The recognizer also decides phrase boundaries — so each translation gets a complete sentence, not an arbitrary slice.

Questions, answered
Do I need BlackHole or Loopback?
No. AI Translator ships its own two audio drivers inside the installer. There is no third-party virtual-audio software to install or configure.
Is it free?
The app is free to download and use. The Apple engine is free and on-device. The OpenAI engine runs on your own OpenAI API key, which OpenAI bills per minute.
Which apps does it work with?
Any macOS app with a microphone and speaker — Zoom, Google Meet, Microsoft Teams, FaceTime, WhatsApp, Discord, Slack, and browser-based calls. The translator looks like an ordinary mic and speaker to them.
Is my audio sent anywhere?
With the Apple engine, no — the whole pipeline runs on your Mac. With the OpenAI engine, call audio goes to OpenAI's API for translation, the same way any OpenAI-powered app works.
What is the license key for?
Downloading the app registers your email and issues a license key valid for 6 months. The app needs a valid key to start translating. Renewing is free — register again with the same email.
What macOS version do I need?
macOS 14 Sonoma or newer. The Apple engine’s translation stage additionally needs macOS 26 or newer; the OpenAI engine works on macOS 14+.
How do I uninstall it?
From the menu bar: Uninstall AI Translator. It removes the app and both audio drivers, and restores your audio settings.
